Pied Wagtails

The Pied Wagtails (Motacilla alba yarrellii) are a subspecies of the White Wagtails.

Distribution / Range

They occur naturally in Great Britain and Ireland, possibly also in the northern parts of Western Europe.

These partial migrants travel south to winter in northwestern Africa.

Description / Behavior

The Pied Wagtails plumage is generally blacker than that of the nominate race.

However, their behavior (breeding and feeding) is identical to those of the nominate race.
