Crested DuckThe Crested Ducks (Lophonetta specularioides) is native to South America, where they are usually found in shallow coastal regions.

 

There are two subspecies:

    • Southern Crested Duck or Patagonia Crested Duck (Lophonetta specularioides specularioides) – Nominate Form. Range: Falklands, Chile, and Argentina.

 

  • Andean Crested Duck (Lophonetta specularioides alticola) and

White Crested Duck (Lophonetta specularioides)

 

Diet / Feeding

They feed on invertebrates and algae..

 

Breeding / Nesting

They nest in tall grass near water. The average clutch consists of 5 to 7 eggs.
