Chickenhawks or Chicken Hawks

The term Chickenhawks or Chicken Hawks refers for three species of North American hawks — the Cooper’s Hawk, the Sharp-shinned Hawk or the Red-tailed Hawk. The term Chicken Hawk, however, is misleading, as chickens do not make a up a significant part of their diet. Even though two of the species may occasionally attack poultry, the Red-tailed Hawk is unlikely to prey on them.
