The Buff-throated Foliage-gleaners (Automolus ochrolaemus) are small birds found in Mexico, Central America and the Amazon basin in South America.
Distribution / Habitat
These Ovenbirds occur naturally in the following countries:
Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.
They inhabit subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical swamps.

- Range: South of the Amazon River in South America – in tropical eastern Peru to central Bolivia (western Pando south to northwestern Santa Cruz) and western Brazil

- Range: Caribbean lowlands of southern Mexico (Veracruz and south from southern Quintana Roo) to Guatemala, western Belize and Nicaragua

- Range: Caribbean slope of Honduras south through eastern Nicaragua to northwestern Panama

- Range: Tropical southeastern Guatemala to Honduras
- Buff-throated Foliage-gleaner (exsertus) (Automolus ochrolaemus exsertus – Bangs, 1901)
- Range: Pacific slope of southwestern Costa Rica to and Chiriquí in western Panama.

- Range: Southeastern Colombia, southern Venezuela (Amazonas, Bolívar) and the Guianas south to eastern Ecuador, northeastern Peru and northern Brazil – north of the Amazon River

Description
Size
Length: 17.5 – 20.5 cm
Weight: 30 – 46 g.
Plumage Details / Adults
Plumage above is dull brown; lower parts are buffy. It is dull brown above with a rufous tail. There is a distinctive dark stripe through the eye. The upper chest is scaled dusky. The rest of the plumage below is dusky buff, fading to pale buff on the under tail. The color of the throat varies regionally from white to buffy.

Similar Species
The Buff-throated Foliage-cleaner is large than the related Scaly-throated Foliage-gleaner (Anabacerthia variegaticeps). The latter has pale brown cheeks with darker small spots.
Diet / Feeding
Buff-throated Foliagegleaners feed on crickets, spiders, ants, and small vertebrates, such as frogs and small lizards (Anolis limifrons). They often forage in mixed-species flocks on the forest floor, flicking leaves aside with their bills as they search for prey.

Their vocalizations are described as a falling series a series of nasal notes, “kee-kee-krr-krr”, “jee-jee-ju-ju-ja” or “ki-ki-ke-ke-kukukrrr”‘; snores or nasal squawks; as well as loud, rough frog-like “croaks”.
