The Rufescent Tiger Herons (Tigrisoma lineatum) – also locally known as known as the Soco-Boi – are members of the Tiger Heron family, genus Tigrisoma.

They are found in Central and South America, and some nearby islands. Specifically they are reported in teh following countries: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

These birds inhabit swamps.

Two Subspecies are currently recognized:

  • Tigrisoma lineatum lineatum (nominate form) – Range: Southeastern Mexico south to Amazonian Brazil and northern Argentina
  • Tigrisoma lineatum marmoratum – Range: Central Bolivia to eastern Brazil and northeastern Argentina
