Backyard Birds

Asian or Philippine Glossy Starlings

The Asian Glossy Starling (Aplonis panayensis) – also known as Philippine Glossy Starling – is endemic to Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. They are found in subtropical or tropical moist lowland and mangrove forests. Huge numbers of them inhabit towns and cities. They are often seen in large flocks and are considered one of the noisiest species of birds.

Both Asian Glossy Starling males and females look alike. Immature birds have black/white striped underparts.
