They occur naturally in the countries of Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

These birds inhabit dry forests and dry savanna. According to Cornell Lab of Ornithology, this species is well documented.
