What eats a clam?

What do clams eat?

Clam are a popular food in the animal world. Fish like to eat them, and so do shorebirds, which sometimes break them open by dropping them onto boulders from a great height. Starfish eat them by prying them open with their powerful arms.

Many mammals, including sea mammals, are regular eaters of clams. Some sea mammals such as otters have even learned how to open clams and other shellfish by banging them with a cobble.

And, what does a clam eat? Clams are filter-feeders, or bivalves, which means that they filter tiny bits of plant and animal material out of the water they live in.
